Volkswagen Touareg takes on key role in the Dakar Rally
The new Volkswagen Touareg is set to face its toughest test yet as it prepares to act as a support vehicle to the bespoke Race Touareg 2 on the Dakar Rally. The event has run since 1979 and, for 2007, totals 4,309 km of stages taking in the most inhospitable terrain to push the tolerances of the vehicles, drivers and the teams.
Volkswagen Touareg prices announced
The new Touareg is now available to order ahead of its arrival in showrooms on 1 March 2007. With a host of new technologies and fresh styling Touareg prices will start from £29,465 on the road RRP for the 2.5-litre TDI 174 PS with DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) before rising to £57,535 for the range-topping Altitude 5.0-litre V10 TDI DPF.

London Hire shifts up a gear with the new Volkswagen Crafter
At this year’s Community Transport Show in Manchester, commercial vehicle self-drive hire operator, London Hire, officially took delivery of one of the UK’s first Volkswagen Crafter coach built minibuses. Volkswagen Touran available to order now ahead of January launch
Volkswagen has announced prices for its new Touran and released the car for ordering ahead of the on sale date of 5 January 2007. Prices start at £14,750 on the road RRP for the entry-level S 1.6-litre 102 PS and rise to £23,310 for the range-topping Sport 2.0-litre TDI DPF 170 PS with DSG gearbox.

Volkswagen Touareg successfully tows a Boeing 747
A Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI has succeeded in towing a Boeing 747-200 weighing approximately 155 tonnes. Watched by engineers, Volkswagen personnel and bemused passers-by, the Touareg V10 TDI completed seven complete runs on the auxiliary runway at Dunsfold Aerodrome, 40 miles south west of London.

Volkswagen cold and climate test centre now in service
Volkswagen has inaugurated the new cold and climate test centre at its Wolfsburg plant. Dr Wolfgang Bernhard, Chairman of the Volkswagen Brand, opened the 5,400 sq metre facility in the presence of 150 guests. ‘The new cold and climate test centre will significantly reduce development times for our new models because we will be able to conduct a much wider range of tests in our labs,’ said Bernhard. ‘Our engineers will be able to analyse and optimize development vehicles faster. This will save time and money and make for even higher quality.’
