Blacksheep's design is the perfect homage at Gillray's

Blacksheep, the leading hospitality design agency based in London, has developed the concept for Gillray’s Steakhouse & Bar the soon-to-launch restaurant at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall. Launching in Spring 2012, the design of Gillray’s pays homage to the restaurant’s namesake, James Gillray, a famed English caricaturist and political satirist of the late 18th century, and its most English of locations – the Grade II listed County Hall, built 100 years ago to house London’s government.

These themes have allowed Blacksheep to develop a design concept firmly rooted in the values of provenance; a philosophy the agency upholds in every project they work on. Diners can expect a sophisticated yet unpretentious environment, which celebrates the best of English hospitality.

The client, London Marriott Hotel County Hall, developed the name and asked the agency to evoke the ec- centric and irreverent character of James Gillray. From the outset, Blacksheep took a 360° holistic approach to the design of the space and creation of the personality of Gillray’s, through artwork on the walls and the Gin themed bar, which will serve cocktails such as ‘Gunpowder & Smoke’ and ‘The Morning After Marriage’. The sumptuous interior, with English Oak table tops, a nine-metre long Chesterfield sofa and crystal chandeliers, is complimented by every detail, from the menu, to the tailored staff uniform, through to the Sheffield 18/10 silverware.
