Southeast Asian restaurant Pan Chai and Thai restaurant Mango Tree have been selected to open at the world renowned retailer, Harrods, this April. The restaurants’ elegant cuisines, teamed with their luxurious designs, make them the perfect addition to Harrods’ Food Halls.

Both restaurants are operated by restaurateur Eddie Lim, owner of Mango Tree in Belgravia and Malaysian restaurant Awana in Chelsea. Eddie has worked alongside executive chef Ian Pengelley to bring his ideas to life with two authentic menus, which truly reflect their origins.

The first concept is Southeast Asian restaurant Pan Chai with a menu containing a selection of sushi dishes, sashimi, salads and larger plates. The exotic flavours and vibrant presentation of Southeast Asian cuisine is showcased by Pan Chai’s signature dishes, which include Harrods Special sushi rolls (crabmeat, tobiko, cucumber, topped with Japanese mayonnaise, salmon and spring onions), and a unique seaweed salad with collagen, peanut and miso. For diners looking for a main meal, dishes such as soft shell crab tempura and wagyu beef with sweet jog glaze are also included on the menu.

Mango Tree at Harrods is opening as the sister restaurant to the successful Mango Tree in Belgravia, which opened over 10 years ago. The Thai destination hot spot has since gone from strength to strength and has gained both critical acclaim and a host of celebrity fans. The restaurant, renowned for its authentic dishes, exotic flavours, delicate use of spices, will deliver quality and freshness and bring the same buzz and excitement to Knightsbridge as it has to Belgravia.

Guests at Mango Tree will be able to choose from a diverse selection of freshly prepared Thai dishes and dim sum. The diverse menu offers diners new additions such as Thai papaya salad, fried sea bass with mango salad and roast duck with tamarind sauce to the restaurant’s repertoire, as well as keeping a range of popular signature dishes.

Interior specialists Stoneforce, who have designed both restaurants, have incorporated the philosophy behind Thai cuisine into the design for Mango Tree’s installation. Thai food is renowned for fusing unique and subtle flavours without any single element being overpowering, this is reflected in the design of the restaurant. The distinct contrast between the contemporary high gloss materials and the traditional marble brings a fresh energy to the space - reflecting the growth and prosperity of the Far East. For Pan Chai, Stoneforce have created a sleek, modern look but in keeping with the original features of the Grade II listed building. The 22 marble and leather bar stools surround the open-plan kitchen and guests can marvel at the chef’s handiwork, as they freshly prepare sashimi and cook the authentic cuisine.

Eddie Lim, owner of Mango Tree and Pan Chai, says: “It’s always exciting to open a new restaurant, but it is a privilege to have both Pan Chai and Mango Tree in Harrods, one of the world’s most iconic stores. We’re really looking forward to welcoming customers to all that Southeast Asia has to offer and providing them with quality cuisine.”

Paul Goodale, Director of Restaurants at Harrods says: “We believe the exceptional dishes and warm hospitality offered by Pan Chai and Mango Tree at Harrods make them the perfect addition to our portfolio of 28 restaurants. At Harrods we are always seeking to exceed our shoppers’ expectations with an array of gourmet dining experiences and are sure they’ll be thrilled with these latest additions.”
