‘Farmstead’ design brings new homes for Chatham

Countryside Properties has launched a new range of ‘farmstead’ style homes at Horsted Park in Chatham, Kent. The architecturally innovative, contemporary development has already been shortlisted for a design award. With open countryside on three sides, Horsted Park offers a varied range of new homes in a ‘village’ setting located amid six and a half acres of open space, itself nearly a third of the overall site area. There is a wide range of homes available including one and two bedroom apartments as well as two, three, and four bedroom houses.

The contemporary external design, by architects Proctor & Matthews, uses carefully chosen materials, sourced locally wherever possible, together with architectural features to allow the homes to resemble a series of ‘farmsteads’. Many of the homes have large picture windows that accentuate the contemporary style and create light-filled, elegant living spaces, fitted out to a high specification.

These homes adopt the style of the rural vernacular of Kent farmsteads to create a series of squares and courtyards with dwellings arranged around them to provide shelter, so allowing the open spaces to provide a comfortable, domestic environment. Horsted Park will therefore become a distinctive new neighbourhood where homes exist alongside new shops and community facilities. ‘Extra Care’ housing is also proposed, providing attractive retirement housing with communal facilities for older people.

Horsted Park sits well within its surroundings. Formerly the home of Mid Kent College, Horsted Park is located just two miles south of both the vibrant regenerated community in Chatham and the historic cathedral city of Rochester. Adjacent is a renovated monument, the Napoleonic Fort Horsted, which now incorporates a fully-equipped business centre. With the Medway countryside all around, Horsted Park therefore offers a mix of green open spaces, creatively designed homes and retail and leisure activities close by. Transport connections are good too, with easy access to the M2, A2 and M20. Chatham rail station is also nearby which offers a direct service into London in less than 45 minutes, whilst Ebbsfleet International offers rapid connections to central London in just 17 minutes.

Prices for two-bedroom houses start from £199,950 and three-bedroom houses from £279,950. Further information about homes at Horsted Park is available by visiting horstedpark.co.uk.
