Elbow First Steps

First Steps by Elbow, the specially commissioned BBC Olympic theme, is now available as a two track digital only download at selected online retailers with all profits split equally between BBC Children in Need and Sport Relief.

Elbow have waived all fees and royalties from the digital download and the retailers have waived all profits from the release.

Written and performed by award-winning band Elbow the anthemic First Steps features the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and NovaVox Gospel Choir and was specially commissioned by the BBC as its official London 2012 Olympics music for television and radio programmes (including opening and closing title sequences) and its Stadium UK marketing campaign.

The two track download features the full six minute twenty-one second version of First Steps, alongside a four minute edit which was played for the first time on Chris Evans Radio 2 Breakfast Show live from the Olympic Park on the morning of the London 2012 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony.

A 10 minute film on the making of First Steps and the animated BBC 2012 ‘Stadium UK’ title sequences and marketing campaign, with backstage access and interviews with Guy Garvey and Craig Potter of Elbow and the animation team, is now available to watch at bbc.co.uk/2012.

A minimum of 20p per download will be shared equally between BBC Children in Need a charity registered in England and Wales (802052) and Scotland (SC039557) and Sport Relief, an initiative of Comic Relief, the trading name of Charity Projects, registered in England and Wales (326568) and Scotland (SC039730).
