World’s fastest bikes to run at Santa Pod’s European Finals

Over the years, just about every big name and record holder in the book has demonstrated their mastery of the sport on the hallowed quarter mile of Santa Pod’s world-famous track, but for the forthcoming European Finals at the Northamptonshire venue, it’s the turn of the two fastest motorcycle riders in the world!

In and amongst a galaxy of the sport’s star names and a plethora of frighteningly quick machinery sit two names that have done more than their fair share of quick quarter miles over the last few years. Sweden’s Peter Svensson is the current reigning UEM Top Fuel Bike Champion who seems to be on blistering form at the moment, having literally only just set a new European ET record of 5.860 seconds as well as setting the World’s quickest run in the Top Fuel Bike class.

Despite only entering half of this year’s available rounds, Svensson has been impressive all season. In pre-season testing at Tierp, Svensson, he ran the fourth quickest Elapsed Time (ET) in the world, a 5.814 – despite coming off the throttle at the 1000ft mark! During the second round of the UEM Championship at Tierp, Svensson reset the ET record with 5.923 during qualifying, going on to win the event with a time of 5.826 at 230.45mph. At the second Tierp event he managed to record the World’s quickest ever run by a Top Fuel Bike during qualifying with a time of 5.709 at only 220.89mph, en route to reaching the un-run final. His 2011 speed record of 233.36mph still remains unbeaten.

Shunning internal combustion in favour of military-grade rocket power, Frenchman Eric Teboul is also no stranger to watching the quarter mile flash by in the blink of an eye beneath the wheels of his bespoke motorcycle. Literally setting the sport ablaze in 2011, Teboul re-wrote the record books with an incredible 5.2090 second pass at 281.47 mph at the Flame and Thunder event, redefining what can be achieved in the two-wheeled classes. Having run faster each year, and clearly a fan of the quality of preparation on the Santa Pod tarmac, many are wondering if Teboul can go even quicker and trim a little more time off during this year’s event.

So, if you’re a biker looking to witness two masters of the craft, or indeed, you’re looking for a great family day out witnessing two amazing riders amongst a sea of cars, bikes, monster trucks and insane race-machinery, make sure you get your tickets to the European Finals at Santa Pod, from the 6th to 9th September.
