Secure a new home in Kent with a 95% mortgage

Taylor Wimpey is currently offering a selection of new homes for sale in Kent with the Government-backed NewBuy scheme – as Gary and Lindsey Rosslee discovered at the Kings Quarter development.
Daunted by the prospect of having to save £40,000 for a deposit to purchase their first home in Kent, Gary and Lindsey Rosslee thought the property ladder would be well out of their reach.
But after discovering the NewBuy scheme, which enables purchasers to secure new homes with 95% mortgages, they were delighted to find they could afford a property at Taylor Wimpey’s sought-after Kings Quarter development of new homes for sale in Chislehurst, Kent.
This incredible Government-backed initiative helps both first-time buyers and those with a property to sell by enabling them to purchase Taylor Wimpey properties in Chislehurst up to the value of £500,000 with only a 5% deposit.
The scheme makes it easier for credit-worthy purchasers to secure affordable mortgages without the need for large deposits or significant equity in an existing property.
“Without NewBuy, there’s no doubt we wouldn’t have been able to buy our first home,” says Gary, an IT recruitment consultant for Networkers International in Bromley.
Gary and Lindsey (both 35) had been renting a two-bedroom house in Chislehurst and had an opportunity to purchase it from the landlord for £280,000 – but they were priced out of the move by the need for a hefty deposit.
“I spoke to a mortgage lender and they required a 15% deposit for the size of mortgage we needed, which was £42,000,” says Gary. “I had around £20,000 saved and it was a real struggle to scrape that together because our rent was £1,100 a month – and then on top of that we had bills, food and entertainment to pay for.
“I then discovered Kings Quarter on the internet, popped down and found out about NewBuy, and everything’s worked out perfectly since. We just needed £12,500 for the deposit, which has left us with plenty of change for new furniture and to cover the costs of moving.”
The Rosslees reserved a two-bedroom, two bathroom apartment at the Taylor Wimpey development, which is the perfect size for the couple, who regularly have Gary’s nine-year-old son Connor to stay.
“Connor’s really excited about the move, in fact we all are,” says Gary. “We can’t wait to move in. We’re really pleased to have an en-suite bathroom, which will be a real luxury, the rooms are of a good size and being a new-build, I don’t have to worry about maintenance.
“Having allocated parking is a massive bonus for us as well, because where we are renting we can’t park in our road. We sometimes have to park near a pub which has always been a worry – in fact, Lindsey had her wing mirror kicked off recently. With secure parking at Kings Quarter, we know the car will be fine.”
Kings Quarter’s location is perfect for Gary and Lindsey, who wanted to stay in the familiar surroundings of Chislehurst.
Gary says: “It’s a really nice spot, with everything you need. There’s lots of independent shops, boutiques and restaurants here. We love the area and we feel really safe here.”
Property-seekers can choose from a superb selection of high-quality homes at Kings Quarter, including two-bedroom apartments from just £255,000, three-bedroom houses from £370,000 and four-bedroom houses from £590,000.
Kings Quarter is being constructed on the site of the former Ravensbourne College within the London Borough of Bromley.
Elmstead Woods railway station (Travelcard Zone 4) is ideally placed for commuters just half a mile from the new homes, and offers regular services to Charing Cross, London Bridge and London Cannon Street, while from Bromley there are trains to London Victoria, Blackfriars and Ashford International. Road links are excellent too, with easy access to the A20 for travel to Sidcup, Lewisham and on into London.
Nearby Chislehurst offers wonderful lifestyle opportunities and has managed to retain much of its original village atmosphere, especially around the Common.
The town boasts a remarkable variety of shops within walking distance of the new homes and the bustling High Street includes elegant interior design stores, stylish boutiques and trendy cafes and coffee bars along with a Sainsbury’s supermarket. The chic Royal Parade, meanwhile, offers genteel shops, art and antiques and exclusive designer boutiques.
