Sandi Thom premieres Flesh And Blood: The controversial new video

18th October 2012 Print

Iconic rocker Sandi Thom has this week launched a brave and controversial new music video for her forthcoming single Flesh And Blood.

"The human race is hanging on by a thread" says Sandi "and we have to do everything we can to unite and save it. I have a voice and I feel like I should use it."

Flesh And Blood is a song with one purpose, to unite. In an age where every day we wake up to news of war, corporate greed, famine, inequality and injustice as human beings we still display unfathomable acts of bravery, incredible feats of courage and a love for our fellow brothers and sisters that is insurmountable which instils a sense of hope in us all.

"After my friend Tal (Tal Bergman, drummer/percussionist) and I had recorded the vast majority of the song I sat back in the producers chair and realised that this song could really reach out and touch people.

Sometimes you don't write a song, the song writes itself. This song came from the pit of my stomach and the deepest depths of my soul. I feel so desperately sad at the news I watch every day that I must stand up and say something and I don't give a fuck if I get stick for it. Someone needs to stand up and tell it like it is for the millions of people who do not have the priceless gift of freedom of speech."

Thom immediately started pulling prolific images from the past together to depict the songs message opening with the famous Dr. Martin Luther King "I have a dream" speech.  She says that hopefully this video can communicate a message of hope and unity in these dark times.

"I want to strike a chord in the hearts of millions. When I have an opportunity to say something that can resonate with people and light a fire in their hearts, then I embrace it despite the consequences. We are all at the end of the day just Flesh and Blood."
