Waterside setting at Riverside Quarter provides healthy ‘blue space’

According to research by Professor Michael Depledge, ‘blue space’ such as the River Medway that surrounds St Mary’s Island in Chatham, Kent, can have a positive impact on wellbeing. At Riverside Quarter, there is a great collection of 2 bedroom apartments overlooking the river that are ideal for people looking to benefit from the relaxing and stress busting effects of living by the water. It is also a perfect choice for people who enjoy water pursuits including sailing, windsurfing, waterskiing or diving.

Since Victorian times, doctors have prescribed ‘sea air’ as a cure for a range of agues and ailments, and the health benefits of ‘green space’ are well known. However since Professor Depledge launched his Blue Gym project in 2012 to study the health and wellbeing benefits of aquatic environments, it is also becoming apparent that ‘blue space’ such as the sea, lakes, rivers and even urban water features have an important positive impact.
Tony Travers, Managing Director of the New Homes & Communities division of Countryside Properties comments: “The results of Professor Depledge’s research demonstrate the positive impact that living by the water has to people’s health and wellbeing. The apartments at Riverside Quarter enjoy amazing views for people to relax and unwind watching the river itself, and there are water sports facilities nearby for the many people who enjoy sailing and windsurfing on the river. There is even a marina just a short walk away for people looking to live on the island and moor their boat nearby.”

Ideal for ensuring plenty of ‘blue space’, each of the two bedroom apartments at Riverside Quarter enjoys fantastic waterside views. Spaciously designed with an open plan living, dining and kitchen space, each property has a balcony, all of which overlook the River Medway. All homes have en-suite shower rooms and fitted wardrobes to the master bedroom, as well as a family bathroom.

Completed to a high specification, the fully fitted kitchens include contemporary style units with glass splashback to the hob, laminate work surfaces, ceramic flooring and a range of integrated appliances. Bathrooms include white sanitary ware, chrome fittings and ceramic wall and floor tiling.

Designed to achieve Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the properties at Riverside Quarter include a range of environmentally friendly features. These include a photovoltaic system providing solar powered electricity and a mechanical heat recovery system which continuously circulates fresh air throughout the property, whilst extracting heat from the recycled air, both of which help to reduce energy costs.

What’s more, each of these waterside homes are available through Help to Buy, the government initiative which enables buyers to purchase a new home with a mortgage for just 75% of the cost of the property, provided they can put down a 5% deposit. Those who qualify will be eligible for an equity loan worth up to 20% of the value of the property, funded by the government, which will be interest-free for the first five years. There is no cap on the maximum amount someone can earn to be eligible.

These beautiful waterside apartments at Riverside Quarter are situated on St Mary’s Island - Britain’s only strategically planned island community and forms part of Chatham Maritime, the regeneration scheme being sensitively built on part of the Historic Naval Dockyard.

Perfectly placed to enjoy the wide range of amenities available on the island, including a doctor’s surgery, community centre and primary school, as well as a network of cycle and footpaths around the island, Riverside Quarter offers a perfect opportunity to enjoy relaxed, island life. Just over the bridge, there are a wider range of facilities available including shops, restaurants, cinema, university campus and leisure facilities.

Ideally located to enjoy the greatly enhanced transport connections, St Mary’s Island is located near Ebbsfleet International, which offers the fastest connections to London, with trains to Stratford in 12 minutes and St Pancras in 17 minutes. Eurostar services to the Continent include trains to Paris in around two hours. By road, the island is within a short drive of both the A2 and the M2, providing access into London and down to Dover.

Just five of these superb 2 bedroom apartments remain at Riverside Quarter and start from just £185,000. Under ‘Help to Buy’, a 5% deposit of £9,250 is required, a mortgage to be arranged for £138,750 and the balance of £37,000 is provided by the ‘Help to Buy’ equity loan.
