Carl Sargeant Minister for Housing and Regeneration in the Welsh Government has officially opened the David Wilson Homes development Glas y Dorlan in Neath.

The development is the first for David Wilson Homes in the Swansea area and has been an early success for the five star developer.

The Minister said: “This development is a great example of partnership working to deliver new homes. I applaud David Wilson Homes and Coastal Housing for the way they have worked together to deliver 81 new homes and 16 new affordable homes for the local community.

“The Welsh Government has a target to deliver 7,500 additional affordable homes during the term of this government. We have already delivered around 2,500 homes and developments like this make a significant contribution to achieving and exceeding this target.

“I wish all the families making their new homes in Jersey Marina every happiness.”

Steve Williams, managing director of David Wilson Homes in South Wales said the homes are proving so popular that people are currently reserving homes off-plan which will not be ready until 2014.

“We knew the development would prove popular but we just cannot build fast enough at the moment,’’ said Steve. “The fact that people are reserving their new home long before it is complete is a real tribute to the location and the quality of homes we are building and reinforces renewed confidence in the housing market.’’

He said he was delighted the Minister had taken time to see the new homes being built at this sought after location.

“We were delighted to welcome the Minister for Housing to Glas Y Dorlan and he showed real interest in this development and our plans for new homes throughout the region,’’ added Steve.

Glas Y Dorlan is a brownfield redevelopment of an abandoned railway siding. Railway activity dates back to 1879 but the lines and sidings were demolished in 1999.
