Do different dinner times mean the death of the dining room?

With over half of UK homeowners eating dinner at a different time to the rest of the family and a third spending most of their time at home in the kitchen, according to research by the Lloyds Banking Group , the formal dining room seems to be falling out of favour. The research also found over half of respondents preferred to entertain friends in the kitchen rather than in the living room.

At Countryside Properties’ Horsted Park development near Chatham, the flexible layout of the Capstone 2 enables the whole family to do their own thing without being separated. The living accommodation enables family members to eat, surf the net, do their homework or watch television within the same large airy space.

Featuring unrivalled views of the Horsted Valley, this stunning four bedroom home features a large kitchen/diner with French doors to the rear garden and a dining area which is situated within a fully glazed conservatory. This leads onto the living room which also has double doors to the rear garden, not only enabling family members to take part in separate activities but also making it the perfect space for entertaining friends.

Tony Travers, Managing Director of Countryside Properties’ Homes and Communities division comments: “The Capstone 2 offers a great adaptable layout for families, enabling parents to eat together whilst keeping an eye of the children whether they are doing their homework, watching television or playing outside. With accommodation that flows from kitchen to the dining area to the living room and out into the garden, it also provides an excellent entertaining space.”

On the first floor there are two double bedrooms, with a family bathroom between them, making these perfect rooms for children. On the second floor, the master bedroom features a smart en-suite shower room, with the final bedroom benefitting from two skylights that flood the room with light.

The kitchen is fitted with Clay Oak base units and wall units with Ivory Gloss finish, laminate worktops and a range of integrated appliances including stainless steel double oven, ceramic hob, fridge/freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. The bathrooms are finished in white sanitary ware with chrome taps and towel rails.

Surrounded by the unspoilt Medway countryside, Horsted Park is the ideal environment for families, with its six and a half acre Eco park and children’s playground.

Horsted Park is located midway between Rochester and Chatham, benefitting from all the amenities that these towns have to offer. Chatham lies at the heart of the Medway and is perfect for those wanting to explore the local retail and leisure activities. Local theatres, The Brook and Central, provide regular evening entertainment for all ages, whilst the bars, restaurants and pubs will tempt those looking to enjoy a night out.

The ancient Cathedral City of Rochester, home to Victorian novelist Charles Dickens is unique in the fact it boasts a wide range of independent shops rather than the usual high street names. The events calendar also has a lot to offer, with the famous Rochester Sweeps festival, Summer Dickens festival and the popular Rochester Castle Summer Concerts. The attractive marina at Chatham Maritime is also sure to impress, offering a range of retail outlets, eateries and Dickens World.

The M2 is less than a mile away giving rapid access to the M20, M26, M25, the Dartford Crossing and London Airports as well as the channel ports and tunnel.
The Capstone 2 is priced from £340,000 and is available through Help to Buy. For further information, visit horstedpark.co.uk.
