Is gourmet pizza the new fish and chips?

An independent West Country gourmet pizza, pie and cider restaurant is giving old-fashioned fish and chips a run for its money in South West coastal resorts.

The Stable is fast becoming a firm, family favourite in some of the West Country’s most popular seaside holiday hot spots including Poole, Weymouth and Bridport and Fistral Beach in Newquay. The winning formula is down to the gourmet food and family-friendly vibe at value for money prices.

Voted one of the best places for cheap eats in the South in the Observer Food Monthly Awards 2013, the Stable offers stone-baked sourdough pizzas topped with fresh, ingredients, sourced from suppliers local to each individual branch.  A range of pies is also available.

Building on the strictly local approach, pizzas are named after local landmarks and heroes. The Stable, Newquay, which recently opened on the iconic Fistral Beach, features the Fistral Fire, a hot and spicy pizza topped with local chopped pork, Naga chillies, garlic, red onion, basil leaves, mushrooms, tomato and mozzarella, while the Atlantic Angler comes topped with fresh, locally-caught mackerel and smoked salmon, spinach, parsley and lemon. Other locally-inspired pizzas include the Cribber featuring Cornish blue cheeses, and the Ruby Red Rustler, featuring Cornwall’s own Ruby Red bacon.

West Country heritage is represented in the drinks too, with over 60 ciders available at each restaurant, from local artisan scrumpies to posh cider brandies.
