According to new research from ‘Move with Us’ , the UK government’s Help to Buy scheme which is credited with helping more first time buyers onto the property ladder, is most popular with people aged 20 to 29 years. The Help to Buy scheme has been especially popular at The Fishing Village on St Mary’s Island, Chatham, where the range of one and two bedroom apartments, and three and four bedroom homes by Countryside Maritime are all available with the Government backed scheme.

The research also found that 78% of people using Help to Buy are young couples, 10.5% are single and 9% are families.

Tony Travers, Director of Countryside Maritime comments: “The Help to Buy scheme has helped a significant number of first time buyers to get on the property ladder and move into their own home. At The Fishing Village, we’ve seen buyers using the scheme to buy a property, including people who have used the scheme to buy a bigger home than they might have done otherwise, with the intention of staying in their property for many years to come.”

Comprising one and two bedroom homes, The Victory Apartments at The Fishing Village are ideal starter homes for first time buyers with prices starting from £147,500. Through Help to Buy, purchasers will need a £7,375 deposit and a mortgage for £110,625, with the government loan providing the remaining 20%. Seven out of the 17 reservations on the apartments so far have been purchased using Help to Buy.

Also available at The Fishing Village, are three and four bedroom houses that have been recently launched due to demand and sales success at the development. Perfect for first time buyers wishing to take the step to secure a larger home, these properties are all available through Help to Buy and feature pastel colour weather boarded facades with contrasting pale stone brickwork to create traditional Kentish architecture with a touch of contemporary style.

A great example is the three bedroom Maynard housetype, priced from £265,000. On the ground floor the property boasts a welcoming open plan living / dining area, finished to an excellent specification. The contemporary kitchen is fully fitted with integrated appliances including a fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven and microwave. There is also a cloakroom downstairs.

Upstairs is a flexible space that is perfect for a young family. The master bedroom includes a fitted wardrobe and an en suite which offers stylish white sanitaryware with chrome mixer taps and ceramic wall and floor tiling. There is also a double bedroom which could also be used as a guest bedroom, and a single bedroom, which could be easily converted into a home office. A family bathroom and airing cupboard is also included on this floor.

The Fishing Village is situated on St Mary’s Island - Britain’s only strategically planned island community which forms part of Chatham Maritime, the regeneration scheme being sensitively built on part of the Historic Naval Dockyard. Now an established community, the island offers a wide range of amenities, including a doctor’s surgery, community centre and primary school, as well as a network of cycle and footpaths around the island. Just over the bridge, the additional facilities include shops, restaurants, cinema, university campus and leisure facilities.

Ideally located to enjoy the greatly enhanced transport connections, St Mary’s Island is located near Ebbsfleet International, where the fastest connections to London include trains to Stratford in 12 minutes and St Pancras in 17 minutes. Eurostar services to the Continent include trains to Paris in around two hours. By road, the island is within a short drive of both the A2 and the M2, providing access into London and down to Dover.
