Modec welcomes initiative to encourage greater use of greener LCVs

The announcement by Transport Minister Jim Fitzpatrick, of a multi-million pound procurement investment in low carbon vans has been welcomed by Modec, the Coventry based manufacturer of purpose built zero emission vehicles.

“This announcement is very timely for the zero emission van market. We’re currently experiencing increasing demand for our vehicles from both private and public sector organisations, who have recognised not just the financial, but the environmental benefits of running zero emission vehicles.

“This DFT initiative will help stimulate interest and demand from those public bodies operating in the urban environment, where vehicles such as ours can have a massive impact on the local environment. We are now looking to the Government to follow the lead of their mainland European counterparts, for example the Amsterdam CityCargo project which we are involved in, which has demonstrated the real difference a planned and structured approach to urban transport has on the environment.” Commented Trevor Power, Modec Strategy Director.

Modec, who began production at its dedicated manufacturing facility in Coventry this year, have to date sold its pure electric powered vehicles to customers such as Tesco for use on its home delivery fleet, Speedy Hire for use in central London, Islington Borough Council and Amey and Accord, working on behalf of TFL.
