Newham makes an environmental clean sweep with Translinc
TransLinc has won the contract to replace the London Borough of Newham’s current fleet of road sweepers with 21 brand new units.
As a part of the Borough’s standard framework agreement, TransLinc will supply 16 ‘Applied 636’ Precinct Sweepers and five ‘Applied 424’ Pedestrian Sweepers to Newham, making the Borough its largest street cleansing client.
Applied’s road sweepers are some of the most environmentally friendly and technologically advanced models on the market. Powered by efficient, low-emission diesel engines, with features including an integrated jet wash and reversing camera, their specification is a perfect fit for the arduous urban conditions experienced by sweepers in the Borough.
TransLinc will provide sweepers on a three year contact hire with maintenance agreement, and is responsible for the whole-life cost of each unit on behalf of the Authority, from specification and procurement to disposal into the used market.
TransLinc has tapped into Applied’s expertise to assist in the service and maintenance of Newham’s sweepers. Repairs will be carried out by registered Applied technicians and Newham will utilise the manufacturer’s national parts support network when required.
Councillor June Leitch, Newham’s executive member for public realm, said: "The council has been looking to invest in a new fleet of sweepers to support our street cleansing operations. We chose TransLinc because of the complete package that they offer, which involves the supply and maintenance of environmentally-friendly vehicles. This contract will help to ensure that our staff are well-equipped to perform their daily duties and maintain the cleanliness of our streets."
Mark Werrell, National Sales Manager for TransLinc said, “TransLinc has always had a strong relationship with Newham. This gave us a sound understanding of its street cleansing requirements. Our comprehensive sweeper package put together for the authority ensures all operations in this area are fully catered for.”
Almost 100 street cleaning vehicles are currently operated by TransLinc on behalf of a number of local authorities including: The London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, Chesterfield Borough Council, High Peak Borough Council and Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council.
