Latest coating technology secures contract for Stadco paint shop
Stadco Ltd, the leading supplier of body-in-white services and facilities for the global automotive industry, has announced it has secured a new contract with Shropshire based Ingimex, specialist designers and volume manufacturers of light commercial vehicle bodies, body components and kit construction units.
The contract was secured thanks to significant investment at Stadco’s unique paint shop facility in Coventry earlier in 2007. The investment, designed to offer customers the latest coating technology, saw Stadco switch to the next generation Powercron 6200 cationic epoxy electrocoat, enabling the company to be able to coat all components going through the facility with black paint, increasingly the colour of choice for OEM customers and component manufacturers.
The long term contract will see Stadco apply black ecoat paint to a variety of bodies supplied by Ingimex to the Coventy site. Ingimex provides specialist services to many of Europe’s leading manufacturers including Ford, Iveco, Renault, Vauxhall and Volkswagen.
Commenting on awarding the contract to Stadco, Justin Gallen, Managing Director, Ingimex said: “The ability to apply the latest black ecoat paint was just one of our requirements. As a manufacturer of chassis body units for the LCV market, we also needed a supplier with a paint shop facility that could process the large body components we produce.”
Dinos Andreou Commercial Operations Manager UK, Stadco Ltd, said: Stadco’s unique paint shop facility is one of the largest in the UK outside of a major OEM. The 8m long, 80,000 litre cathodic electocoat paint tank can process components and body shells over 6.1m in length, 2.5m wide and 1.9m in height and as such is big enough to accommodate the large components manufactured by Ingimex.”
This capability recently saw Stadco win a contract with Marshall Specialist Vehicles which saw the company process and apply paint to the large vehicle cargo bed Marshall SV is supplying for the new MAN Logistics Support Vehicle for the Ministry of Defence.
As well as being the colour of choice, the latest Powercron 6200 paint offers customers a host of other benefits too including broader film build capabilities, improved transfer efficiency and excellent chemical resistance. Importantly, Powercron 6200 has been formulated to meet the automotive industry’s increasing demand for improved corrosion resistance without the need to use heavy metals such as lead, thereby reducing any negative impact on the environment.
Dinos Andreou concluded: “We are delighted to have won the business with Ingimex which justifies the strategic decision to invest in the Coventry paint shop to offer our customers the latest coating technology. The facility now complements Stadco’s other core world-class services including pressings, sub-assemblies and product engineering allowing us to provide our customers with a complete one-stop shop for all Body-in-White assembly requirements.”
Stadco is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of body-in-white panels and assemblies to vehicle manufacturers including Ford, BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover, Aston Martin, GM and Toyota. Stadco has five manufacturing sites, four in the UK and one in Germany. It also operates in South America and India and has recently announced plans to start operations in Russia.
