Adaptable TomTom WORK even helps satisfy the tax man!
TomTom WORK is ensuring faster response times, compliance with the Working Time Directive, and keeping the taxman at bay for specialist maintenance company First Call Services UK Limited.
With its team of over 30 plumbers, heating and electrical engineers carrying out both routine maintenance and emergency repair work across the South East of England, the Cheshunt company needed a reliable and responsive communication and navigation system. Last year it made the decision to install TomTom WORK’s Connected Navigation system into its 14 vehicles, ranging from vans to 7.5 tonne trucks.
Managing Director Peter Hawes says that the system has been central to maintaining and improving service levels to both its local council and private sector customers. “TomTom WORK has significantly increased the flexibility and response times of our field-based engineers enabling us to be more effective in meeting our customers’ needs,” he says.
“As well as planned work, jobs come in on an ad-hoc basis and we need to quickly pinpoint the location of the nearest engineer, especially in emergency situations. TomTom WORK’s WEBFLEET is able to manage vehicle availability through its search function and quickly identify the nearest vehicle.
“At busy times it’s imperative that the information flow between the office and the engineer takes the minimum amount of time so that customer service does not suffer. Connected Navigation provides reliable two-way messaging over GPRS. The engineer simply needs to accept instructions and report back on current status over a handy touch screen. This means that we know right away that a job has been received and accepted, enabling customers to be kept informed.
“The introduction of the Working Time Directive has also placed an onus on us to ensure that our employees are not working beyond the legal time limits. Should an insurance claim arise the insurers will want to know that the driver was working legally and TomTom WORK helps protect us against the potential of invalidating our insurance. In addition, the ability to know the precise location of each of our vehicles helps us to meet our obligations under Health and Safety legislation in regard to lone or remote workers.
“An unusual benefit and one much appreciated by our employees, is the ability to accurately track private use of vehicles in a way that satisfies the Inland Revenue. If we cannot do this, then both the company and the employee can be charged, with the company paying up to 13% of the value of the vehicle. Using the solution from TomTom WORK ensures that nobody pays unnecessarily.
“The TomTom WORK solution provided the best value and price for the functionality we required and we are still finding new ways to use it, so increasing its value all the time. Installation was hassle free and its user-friendly features have meant that our people have adapted to it very easily and quickly.”
