Now the advanced new Supertrucks low-loading 3.5 tonne gvw van is available – and the first of these innovative glass carrying vehicles have been acquired by Derby-based Designer Glass Ltd and Wakefield District Council. The patent-applied for Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier is priced from just £23,000 + VAT and has been developed to provide the glass/window trade with even higher standards of operational efficiency and safety.

Peter Wright, Supertrucks’ chairman comments, “The new Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier reflects the company’s policy of expanding its business with a policy of innovative design and engineering combined with the highest quality standards. We have designed this innovative new vehicle to enable our customers to benefit from higher standards of operational efficiency and greater crew safety. We are confident that these benefits will also appeal to businesses outside the glass trade and will be offering van versions of this low-loading model in the near future.”

Based on a Citroën Relay drop frame converted chassis cab, the new Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier has a rear load deck height of just 400mm. This low deck height provides easy walk-in access for the crew – and also makes it safer and easier to load/unload glass from the two full length, full height internal racks.

The new Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier also delivers the benefits of a very large, 4,000mm long x 2,400mm high internal load compartment dimensions. These internal dimensions are considerably greater than even that of the largest panel van conversion.

Also, very importantly for the window trade, the Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier has an aisle width between the two internal racks which is a massive 1340mm. This enables a far greater number of window units to be carried on the two internal racks.

The Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier’s low load deck height, greater overall body width and wider between internal racks width are achieved as a result of the wide track of the dropframe Citroën Relay chassis conversion. This conversion provides a lower centre of gravity of the load and its wide rear track also makes the new Supertrucks vehicle more stable than a conventional panel van glass carrying conversion.

Dependent on body specification, the new Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier offers payloads of up to 1340kg. This high payload capability is a product of both the Relay chassis’ low unladen weight and the new, lightweight structural technology used by Supertrucks in the construction of this low-loading body.

Supertrucks has developed a new range of alloy structural sections for its new low-loading glass carrier. These sections are cut, folded and fabricated using state-of-the-art laser and computer numerically controlled production machinery. The sections, which are used in multiples, depending on the length of the body required, combine both the internal rack structure and external panelling in one piece. This construction method enables easy and accurate body assembly and is also very light and strong.

The new Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier can be specified with twin internal racks with a choice of single or twin external glass carrying racks. In addition to a fixed roof the new vehicle is optionally available with Supertrucks’ concertina roof. This well proven, premium engineered roof option enables up to 80 per cent of the roof length to be opened to enable overhead crane loading of stillages.

“The new Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier offers better payload and load volume than a conventional extra long wheelbase panel van conversion. In addition, this new van brings major safety and operational benefits, thanks to its low loading height and increased body dimensions, as such we expect significant demand for this innovative vehicle,” Peter Wright adds.

The new Supertrucks low-loading glass carrier is covered by a new three-year/100,000 mile warranty – which reflects Supertrucks’ confidence in the quality of its production. This has been further reinforced with its recent achievement of ISO9001: 2000 accreditation.
