moneysupermarket.com comments on Powergen's price drop

9th February 2007 Print
Commenting on Powergen’s price drop for their online tariffs, Paul Schofield, head of utilities at price comparison website moneysupermarket.com said: “This is certainly not the long-overdue price drop we were waiting for from Powergen. Instead, these are lacklustre deals on both electricity and dual fuel, about which we urge its nine million customers to think twice before accepting.

“The new deal only see it third out of the big five suppliers behind Scottish Power and npower, with the former still to announce inevitable price cuts. An average online dual fuel bill with Powergen will now be £863 per year, a customer saving of nine per cent. npower on the other hand offers dual fuel for £822 a year with its revised pricing structure..

“British Gas’s announcement of price cuts next month will no doubt spark further fierce competition over the coming weeks. This presents customers with an ideal market in which to shop around and begin to claw back some of their losses from the last few years of historically high energy prices.”

moneysupermarket.com is making a stand to help these people ditch their expensive power companies and get the cheapest energy deal by offering £30 cash-back to all customers swapping to a dual fuel tariff through its service. Those not going for a dual fuel tariff but changing a provider or tariff will benefit from a single £17.50 payment.
