Virgin Media to upgrade broadband connections

Commenting on Virgin Media's announcement to upgrade broadband connections in the UK, Rob Barnes, head of broadband and mobiles at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Virgin Media's decision to boost broadband speeds shows real commitment to its customer base, potential customers and the future of broadband.

"This move could potentially shake up the whole pricing structure of the market, as I'm sure it won't be long before others react to this.

“In addition, unlike the more common ASDL system which the majority of providers rely on, the cable infrastructure allows Virgin Media to deliver a more reliable and faster service. However, what remains to be seen is whether Virgin can deliver on its promise of increased speeds. It would be a real shame if customers are upgraded from 4mb to 10mb but only achieve actual speeds of 5mb.”
