Football is coming to your home

As a new football season fast approaches, moneysupermarket.com looks at the different television packages on offer to sports fans. With the big four - Sky, BT Vision, Virgin and Tiscali - gearing up for a big season, who will be the one to watch?

Rob Barnes, head of broadband and mobiles at moneysupermarket.com, said: "Since the Premiership divided live screening rights between Sky and Setanta, providers have been able to launch highly competitive TV packages to support their bundled deals. This increased competition between providers is bringing great value for money to customers who traditionally needed to earn as much as a footballer to be able to watch them on TV.

"In terms of sheer choice, Sky's deals are the most attractive, offering die-hard armchair fans 138 live premier league games through Sky Sports and Setanta. Virgin and Tiscali also offer both channels at competitive prices for existing customers wishing to add the sports packages to their deal, whereas BT Vision only carries Setanta for an additional cost of £9.99 per month.

"You can also catch all the goals on your mobile, with a football subscription called 24-7 Football; costing £5 per month, you can watch all the premier league goals on a compatible phone.

"It will no doubt be a great season in the Premier League, Sky look to be run-away winners for value once again, but fans should watch out for any special deals the big four providers might come out with to tempt those last minute new signings."
