Challenge Anneka Is Back

9th November 2006 Print
Anneka Rice Anneka Rice is to help rebuild a Sri Lankan village which was devastated by the tsunami in an all-new Challenge Anneka special. Making her TV comeback after more than a decade, the show will see her and her team jet out to Sri Lanka to build and equip a maternity clinic, a play centre and a cricket pavilion.

In one of the toughest tasks they’ve ever faced, the team will have to secure donations for everything they need - from beds and medical drugs to footballs and colouring books - before transporting it thousands of miles across the world.

They will then have just five days to transform the village and complete the challenge. Nearly two years after the tsunami struck, claiming the lives of almost 200,000 people, Charity World Vision called on Anneka and set her the challenge.

Anneka said: “I was stunned when I heard ITV wanted to bring back Challenge Anneka. Having dragged myself out of retirement, I am now really excited about it. It will be an amazing opportunity to make a difference to thousands of lives".

Alison Sharman, ITV’s Director of Factual and Daytime, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Anneka back to our screens after 12 years. She is a fantastic presenter who throws herself whole-heartedly into everything she does. We are thrilled to have this opportunity to help her with this incredible challenge.”
