High School Musical A musical tipped to be the 21st century's answer to Dirty Dancing is being tipped as an unlikely Christmas best-seller by Amazon.co.uk's DVD and Music experts. High School Musical, currently sitting at number 4 in Amazon's Hot 100 DVD chart, has seen a massive 500% uplift in weekly sales in the past month and is tipped to knock Pirates of the Caribbean out of the running for this Christmas' best-selling DVD.

Music from the film is also proving popular with the nation's children, with the official soundtrack sitting comfortably at number 14 in Amazon's charts, out-selling the latest albums from Robbie Williams and Jamiroquai.

Matt Henderson, Senior Product Manager of DVD and Music at Amazon.co.uk, comments: " High School Musical has been a cult hit with American kids over the past year, and it now looks like they've established a fan base among UK children as well.

With musicals like Dirty Dancing and The Sound of Music making a resurgence on both stage and screen, the nation's kids seem to have a newfound hunger for stardom - and appear to be practicing their singing and dancing along with this hit show."

The saccharine High School Musical, which premiered on America's Disney Channel nearly a year ago to massive 'tween' acclaim, is the all-singing, all-dancing story of the unlikely friendship between a popular basketball player and the class nerd, their quest to break free from the shackles of their respective cliques and their campaign for acceptance among their peers.

High School Musical is available on DVD from Amazon.co.uk
