The Archers Attracts 1.8 Million Online Visitors

BBC Radio 4's The Archers BBC Radio 4 welcomed 1.8 million visitors to its website in October, fuelled by massive interest in whether Ruth Archer would consummate her relationship with Sam the herdsmen in the 15,000th episode of The Archers.

The Archers clocked up almost a million on-demand listening requests via the BBC Radio Player during the month - topping the BBC online table for a 23rd consecutive month.

Radio 4 also led the weekly BBC podcast chart, with In Our Time usurping Chris Moyles to become the most downloaded weekly BBC podcast.

Melvyn Bragg's exploration of the history of ideas was downloaded almost 600,000 times during October.

BBC Radio websites were visited by 8.8 million unique user agents last month - a year-on-year increase of more than a million.

Between them, they generated a record 13 million on-demand listening requests (via the BBC Radio Player) and downloaded an unprecedented 5.9 million BBC podcasts.
