12th February 2007 Print
Coco Electrik The past 50 years has seen pop culture embrace and celebrate a multitude of iconic artists and seminal tracks. Each generation has been shaped and influenced by key musicians, who have cut through the mould, set standards, captured the spirit of their time and earned their places in history.

In the 21st Century, the way we consume music has altered the landscape of the global music community, creating a platform for emerging icons like never before. The phenomenon of sites such as myspace, the immediacy of file sharing and the growth of the digital generation have spawned a revolution in musical consumption and provided a vastly more colourful selection of music at our fingertips.

With every taste catered for and readily available, the spectrum of popular music spans indie, rock, electronic, punk, urban, soul, RnB and every sub genre in between; all drawing on influences from the past and weaving them into new, unique personal styles.

Celebrating both the past and the future, Audi and the Remastered Records project are releasing a series of unique interpretations of seminal tracks by emerging talent and recognised pioneers.

As a tribute to their heroes, these chosen artists have handpicked their favourite iconic tracks and reinterpreted them for a new generation: with some explosive results. Clearly passionate about the music, Remastered’s armoury of talent has chosen well, reinvigorating timeless gems. Each of the artists involved has injected their own fervour into the music to create a highly personal version of their chosen track, all of which pay tribute to the power of melody and music.

With a number of tracks scheduled for release, this looks set to be a truly inspirational collection.

The project kicks off on 12th February 2007 with Coco Electrik delivering a superlative version of the track made global by Soft Cell – ‘Tainted Love’. Released simultaneously will be Farryl Purkiss’s beautiful rendition of Bob Dylan’s ‘Positively 4th Street’. With a line up to follow that includes personal interpretations of great tracks from Amp Fiddler, Xpress2, Shuffle, Motorettes, Apartment, and Lucky Jim… plus more to be announced, this should throw up some fascinating musical offerings.

The central hub of the project will be TTRemastered.com, where you will find all the latest news, sneak previews, forthcoming artist collaborations and bespoke, interactive content including a series of exclusive podcasts presented by BBC Radio 1’s new music champion, Jo Whiley.

Each podcast will feature enticing, behind the scenes studio footage, revealing the artists’ individual reworking processes. Plus, in-depth interviews about their choice of track and why their chosen artist is an icon for them. Full details will also be online detailing exactly how you can download all the Remastered music direct to your mp3 player.

Finally, to fully immerse yourself in the Remastered project, there will be an opportunity for you to add your own personal flavour to the tracks at the Remastered online home. A U-Myx portal will allow you to take the track samples, remix them and upload your very own version for the world to hear. Alongside this will be an interactive game, Journeys Through Sound allowing you to steer through the soundscape produced by these exciting new tracks - again available for download absolutely free.

The pairing of such pioneering new talent, with legendary icons of the past, is sure to throw up some incredible results and endless debate.
