Jack Savoretti: Album ‘Between The Minds’
The debut album from Anglo-Italian Jack Savoretti is an impressive collection of poetic musical storytelling that separates him from the recent mass of floppy-haired troubadours and lifts him into the realms of songwriters such as Nick Drake and Damien Rice.Vocally in a class of his own and with the support of Radio 2, critical acclaim and the special guest slot on Corinne Bailey Rae’s UK tour it is only a matter of time before the 23 year old is a household name.
Amazingly, Jack didn’t pick up a guitar until he was 16. Moving around Europe as a child he wound up at an American school in Switzerland where he picked up an accent he describes as “transatlantic mutt”. The only thing that interested him was poetry. “I was writing all the time, it was the thing to do, sit under a tree with a notebook, go somewhere else in your head. I was in the clouds.” Then Jack’s mother gave him a guitar and suggested he try putting some of his words to music.
“I was surprised how much more people listen to you when you are singing than if you read a poem,” he admits. “After that, I couldn’t stop, it was constant writing, every day, it became almost a form of conversation, the way I interact with the world.”
Jack’s voice belies his youth, with its husky tone and sheer depth of emotion, and it is the perfect foil for his songwriting.
Jack Savoretti’s debut single ‘Without’ was the first release on De Angelis Records, the label set up by Natalie Imbruglia’s former manager Anne Barrett. The track went onto the Radio 2 B list on the same day that Jack played his media showcase at the prestigious London club Ronnie Scott’s. Radio 2’s Johnnie Walker invited Jack to play a live acoustic session on his show in November and Jack also joined Shawn Colvin as special guest on her European tour at the end of 2006.
The release of the second single ‘Dreamers’ complete with a part-animated video directed by Ben Foley nominated for 4 MTV awards on behalf of Collision Films (Franz Ferdinand, Scissor Sisters, The Zutons, The Killers) gave Jack a Radio 2 A List, received support from Jo Whiley and attracted further critical acclaim. It also brought him to the attention of Corinne Bailey Rae who invited Jack to be her special guest on her European tour
On March 5th Jack’s debut, and highly anticipated, album ‘Between The Minds’ will be released.
