Moloko’s Róisín Murphy Makes Debut Solo Outing

27th April 2007 Print
2007 sees the return of one of music’s most intriguing talents – Róisín Murphy, the distinctive voice of dance-pop duo Moloko. Her forthcoming solo album is a heady mix of electronic dance anthems, soul-stirring pop songs, deep, dark funk and quirky lyrical genius.

Conceived by Róisín as a thrilling and contemporary marriage of edgy pop and irresistible disco, she co-wrote and co-produced the entire album, bringing her own vision and focus to these songs whilst working with a variety of producers, writers and mixers to create what is without doubt her finest record; unpredictable, creative, inventive, exciting and hugely accessible.

Róisín has always combined the attitude of Kim Deal with the roar of Grace Jones but this time around she adds the nuance of Kate Bush, the strength of Annie Lennox and the soulfulness of Dusty Springfield into the mix. This is one of the albums of the year – a breathtaking modern classic.

The first single to be taken from the album is ‘Overpowered’ which is released on July 2nd on EMI Records. It’s an insistent, electronic gem and a powerful introduction to the new sound of Róisín Murphy. Written by Róisín and Seiji of Bugz In The Attic and mixed by Tom Elmhirst (Amy Winehouse, Røyksöpp, Grace Jones), the single is accompanied by a series of brilliant remixes from the likes of Seamus Haji, Kris Menace, Hervé and Loose Cannons.

The video to ‘Overpowered’ will be unveiled soon along with the dramatic series of artwork images that will follow throughout the year. Exciting live plans are currently being put together which will further showcase the creative concept of the album.

Róisín Murphy has been reborn. Get ready for the next great pop revolution!
