Channel 4 Investigates The Cult Of The Suicide Bomber

3rd July 2007 Print
In the third instalment of this award-winning documentary series, ex-CIA agent Robert Baer concludes his odyssey investigating the rise of the cult of the suicide bomber and finds out how the West can seek to counter this threat.

The first Cult of the Suicide Bomber traced suicide bombing from the child martyrs of the Iran-Iraq War to the truck bombers in Southern Lebanon, the random terror of Jerusalem’s human bomb bus war, to the closer to home events of 7/7.

In Cult of the Suicide Bomber II, Robert Baer returned to investigate the rise of Western and female suicide bombers. Baer studied the psychology and motivation of individual bombers, detailing the factors leading them on towards martyrdom. He visited Beeston in Leeds and the world's only jail for failed female suicide bombers, to find out more about this latest evolution.

The series has been characterised by extraordinary, never-before-seen footage of suicide bombing operations, unique access and Robert Baer's unrivalled knowledge of – and contacts in – the world of secret intelligence and terrorist organisations. Cult of the Suicide Bomber III brings this definitive account of the modern origins of suicide bombing to a fascinating conclusion.

Cult of the Suicide Bomber III will be shown on Channel 4 in August.
