Match Of The Day Set For New Premier League Season

26th July 2007 Print
Match of the Day The waiting is over for football fans across the country as Saturday 11 August sees the start of the 2007/2008 Premier League season. And for the discerning armchair supporter, Premier League highlights return to BBC One with Match Of The Day showcasing the pick of the action from every one of the day's matches.

Gary Lineker returns alongside regular studio pundits Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson, Alan Shearer and Lee Dixon to provide viewers with their unique brand of expert analysis and candid opinion on the Premier League's major talking points.

And as England resume their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign this autumn, all four of their home games will be shown live and exclusively on Match Of The Day, the first of these being the match against Israel in September, England's first competitive game at the redeveloped Wembley Stadium.

Before then there will be live Match Of The Day coverage on BBC One of the international friendly between England and Germany at Wembley on 22 August – in the first meeting between the two nations since England thrashed Germany 5-1 in a World Cup qualifier in Munich in 2001.

Euro 2008 qualifiers in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland will be covered by a combination of live home and away games on TV and radio, as well as evening highlights programmes.

The popular Premier League highlights programme, which continues to see viewing figures rise, will also be available as a live simulcast on bbc.co.uk/football as will the Sunday morning repeat programme and the Match Of The Day 2 sister show later on Sunday evening on BBC Two.

Match Of The Day's commentators for the season include John Motson, Jonathan Pearce, Steve Wilson, Simon Brotherton, Guy Mowbray and Jacqui Oatley.

For younger football fans, and for those who might miss the Saturday night action, there's a second chance to catch all the action again when the programme is repeated on Sunday morning on BBC One.

Adrian Chiles returns on Sunday evenings with Match Of The Day 2 and will be joined by a range of pundits from the world of football for a comprehensive analysis of the highlights from Sunday's games as well as wrapping up all the action and talking points from the Saturday games.

For digital viewers who want to know about the Saturday action as it happens, pressing the red button will give them access to Ray Stubbs hosting Score, the live results service on BBCi.

Joining Ray in the studio will be Garth Crooks, Gavin Peacock, Lee Dixon, Mark Bright, Les Ferdinand, Gary Pallister and Carlton Palmer.

Score will run throughout the afternoon on BBCi from 2.30pm, returning to BBC One for Final Score at 4.30pm and then continuing on BBCi until 6pm for further analysis of the results.

Football Focus also returns to BBC One at 12.10pm on Saturdays where Manish Bhasin will be joined weekly by Mark Lawrenson and Lee Dixon to preview the weekend's games across the English and Scottish leagues and discuss the stories making the headlines. Confirmed studio guests include Les Ferdinand, Gavin Peacock and Martin Keown.

As always, visitors to bbc.co.uk/football will find comprehensive coverage of all the latest, breaking football news, including the up-to-the-minute transfer news from the Premier League and Football League in England and the Scottish Premier League.

There will be team news and match reports from every game throughout the season with in-depth coverage of the Euro 2008 qualifiers, the FA Cup and Carling Cup, plus the Uefa Champions League and Uefa Cup.

On top of that there will be the best debate, photos and interactivity as web users will be invited to give us their views on every kick throughout the season and also get involved with Squad Selector, Player Rater and Predictor.

BBC Sport football pundits Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson, Garth Crooks and Lee Dixon will be providing their views throughout the season, along with columns from two Premier League footballers and Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Holloway.

There will also be in-depth coverage of the Fifa 2007 Women's World Cup, the African Cup of Nations and Euro 2008.
