The Queen Comes To ITV1 This September

Steven Frears’ and ITV Productions’ critically acclaimed and multi-award winning film The Queen will be coming exclusively to ITV1 this autumn. Winner of the Academy Award for best actress, Dame Helen Mirren gives a spellbinding performance as HRH Queen Elizabeth II.

On September 1st 1997, the world wakes to the tragic news that Princess Diana has died in a car crash. The event sends a shockwave of public grief around the world and by the following day, the gates at Buckingham Palace are awash with a sea of floral tributes. In the wake of Diana’s death, the very private and tradition bound Queen (Mirren) finds herself in conflict with the new Prime Minister, the slickly modern and image conscious Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) as to the best way to deal with the unprecedented public outpouring of grief.
