Young Elvis In Colour

2nd August 2007 Print
Young Elvis In Colour Thirty years after the death of the King of rock ‘n’ roll, Young Elvis In Colour tells the story of the young man who electrified the world in the 1950s. It celebrates the original Elvis so often obscured by the jump-suited, Las Vegas image of his later years.

The film features rare colour archive and home movies of Elvis performing live, touring and making personal appearances. His story is told first hand by those who knew him personally, saw him perform or felt his extraordinary impact.

Interviewees include stars such as Cliff Richard and Ike Turner, Elvis’s first steady girlfriend Dixie Locke, buddies from the so-called ‘Memphis Mafia’ as well as ordinary fans who queued to have him sign their underwear - even before he was famous.

Contemporary colour footage of America and Britain will bring the period vividly to life as the film explores Elvis’s musical roots and his unique impact on the modern world.

It will tell how a teenage truck driver wandered into a Memphis studio to record two songs as a birthday present for his mother and caught the eye of a pioneering record producer looking for a white guy to sing black music.

The programme will recapture the early magic and genius of Elvis by documenting his early rehearsals, his first hit records, TV appearances and films.
