ITV has confirmed that the News at Ten will return to ITV1 from Monday 14th January, broadcasting every week day from Monday to Thursday. The bulletin will be presented by Sir Trevor McDonald, who makes a welcome return to ITV news. Julie Etchingham joins ITV1 and will co-present News at Ten along with established ITV News anchor Mark Austin.

Sir Trevor McDonald said: “I am delighted to be back with the news in the 10 o’clock slot. I’m looking forward to the new programme immensely and to the challenge of returning News at Ten to its place in the nation’s affections.”

Julie Etchingham, who joins ITV from Sky News, said: "I'm delighted to be joining News at Ten. It's an iconic programme with an extraordinary history, and a genuine place in people's affections. It will be an honour to work with Sir Trevor, and to be part of its comeback as a fresh, new programme."

The move of the news forms part of wider changes to ITV1 including a modernised, streamlined schedule designed for easier navigation with regular slots for programming. As part of wider changes to a revamped weekend line up designed to be distinct from the weekday schedule, there will be a later evening news bulletin, Friday to Sunday to allow comedy, entertainment, drama and feature films to be played uninterrupted.

Friday’s bulletin, known as The Late News, will be broadcast at 11.00pm.
