Andrew Bain releases debut album Andrew Bain releases his debut album ‘Andrew Bain Presents Modern Classics’ on 8 September amid controversy over the use of the Prince track ‘Purple Rain’. Key to Andrew’s successful transition from NHS Dentist to sensational singer, it was his interpretation of Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ - a daring demo outside a genre steeped in tradition, that finally secured his million pound deal with SonyBMG.

However, the ever contentious Prince has threatened Andrew Bain with legal action if his track appears on the album despite Andrew’s original version. This comes as a blow to Andrew who credits his success to the international artist, the inspiration for his unusual take on the classic:

“I have the utmost respect for Prince, without ‘Purple Rain’ I wouldn’t be where I am today. I struggled until I took a chance, mixed my operatic style with pop in ‘Purple Rain’, and realised my dreams”, says Andrew.

It was also revealed today that Andrew Bain will join the line up for this summer’s most anticipated festival – Bestival. Andrew will join artists including Amy Winehouse, Will Young, Underworld, My Bloody Valentine and The Human League to perform at the three day festival which takes place on the Isle of Wight on 5, 6, 7 September. His addition to the bill has meant Andrew had to make the tough decision of cancelling his Cambridge Opera performance:

“Playing one of the most talked about festivals this summer is a huge opportunity that I couldn’t miss,” explains Andrew. “To be able to share the stage with such a diverse line up of artists will be an honour”.

Richard Hinkley, Senior Executive at SonyBMG commented, “Andrew has clearly struck a chord with people. We’re really excited by the reactions he’s been getting from both the media and the public alike. We had high expectations, but the level of interest in his music has far exceeded them.”

Andrew’s unique experimentation has produced an album of discovery. ‘Andrew Bain Presents Modern Classics’ is an eclectic mix of some of the most memorable tracks of all time from the world’s biggest artists. With songs as diverse as David Essex’s 1974 number one track ‘Hold Me Close’ through to Aerosmith’s global 1998 hit ‘I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing’, Andrew Bain will add his unique twist and showcase his talents - extending beyond dentistry.

Featuring on the album is the timeless hit ‘I Will Always Love You’. A number one Country Chart hit for Dolly Parton in 1982 and a Grammy winning worldwide hit with Whitney Houston, Andrew Bain’s unique version is bound to hit chords with audiences and turn the track into a Classical hit.

Bryan Adams’ ‘Everything I Do’ is given the Andrew Bain treatment appearing alongside Celine Dion’s 1994 smash ‘Think Twice’ which was a UK number one for 7 weeks. While Andrew Bain’s distinctive rendition of ABBA’s ‘The Winner Takes It All’, David Bowie’s ‘Life On Mars’ and Snow Patrol’s ‘Chasing Cars’ will leave audiences with a shiver of excitement.

Having traded his dentist chair for a lucrative recording contract, Andrew Bain’s debut album will fill the gap between Pop and Classical music.

‘Andrew Bain Presents Modern Classics’ is released on 8 September 2008 through SonyBMG.
