How to keep kids entertained on a budget

28th August 2009 Print
As the summer holidays draws to a close and budgets become ever tighter, TV Presenter Cesarina Holm-Kander takes us through the best tips from hard working Mum’s across the country and gives her run down of how best to entertain the kids on a budget.

• For cheaper ways to do packed lunch – buy cheap mini plastic tubs and instead of giving the kids individually wrapped cheese, cut regular cheese into little cubes, put them in the tub and send them in with that.

• Take advantage of the warm weather – reset timers on your heating and check you have changed the settings on your boiler for hot water.

• Give mum a helping hand – Kids will find your chores fun, especially if they get to splash their hand in the soapy water whilst washing up!

• Have fun in the garden – get the kids to paint just with water on the patio which will keep them busy and it dries up leaving no mess!

• Keep bread in the fridge – it keeps it fresher for longer so reduces the amount you have to throw out and replace.

• When going for an outing – take snacks with you so that the children don’t get tempted by the expensive kiosks
