“Neighbourhood” Restaurant To Open In Notting Hill Gate

23rd May 2007 Print
Opening in July 2007 and occupying a site that was once a Victorian butcher’s shop, Hereford Road will offer simple yet innovative British cooking. Tom Pemberton, formerly head chef of St. John Bread and Wine, will use the best nationally sourced, seasonal produce, placing the provenance of meat, fish and vegetables at the centre of the endeavour.

Hereford Road aims to provide a genuine neighbourhood restaurant in residential Notting Hill Gate. It will also be worth a journey for people who value excellent food.

Friendly, informed staff will introduce the daily changing menu that champions well sourced British food at reasonable prices. In the summer, it will include ingredients such as sea trout, samphire, Scottish girolles and native berries; in the winter, mutton, game, middle white pork and Colchester oysters.

There will always be a number of dishes available for customers to share - such as whole braised oxtail for two or three people. This will encourage a sense of informal, sociable dining. The well-researched wine list will offer a number of wines by the glass and by the third of a bottle. Thought will be given to ensure high quality house wines.

The simplicity, honesty and quality of the food are reflected through the restaurant with its comfortable and straightforward design. An emphasis on seasonality is also echoed in the interior of this 70 cover establishment. It is light and airy in the summertime with its butcher’s window open on to the street. In winter, the open kitchen at the front of the restaurant creates a warm and intimate setting.

Chef and co-founder Tom Pemberton remarks, ”It seems to me the area lacks a strong neighbourhood restaurant. Our main priority is to provide genuinely high quality, interesting and affordable British food in a relaxed environment.”
