Say Hello To Hi Sushi Salsa

9th August 2007 Print
High Sushi Salsa Hi sushi salsa, part of the Hi Sushi Group, has opened a new intimate restaurant and bar, with outdoor waterfront seating in the heart of Camden Lock. Capturing the taste of Japan with more than a hint of Latino, the fusion is reflected in the food, cocktails and music. Hi sushi salsa is a welcome addition to Camden’s fashionable eating and drinking scene.

Set over an open plan split level floor plan of 3000 square feet, Hi sushi salsa offers guests a lush, Oriental oasis in central London. Upon entering the venue, the openness of the space and the dark wood and bamboo décor, give the impression of a Japanese Zen garden. The eye is immediately drawn to the authentic sunken sushi bar. The long bar offers a great view of the canal lock.

The sunken tatami seating is spaciously set apart, and is ideal for both eating and drinking. Hi sushi salsa boasts an attractive terrace set along the banks of Camden Lock, the perfect spot for al fresco dining and for those trying to avoid the new smoking ban.

The combination of Latin American and Japanese cultures is not as arbitrary and eclectic as it initially appears; their cuisines complement each other through their shared love of fresh, exotic and spicy ingredients. Head chef Eric Fu trained in one of the top sushi restaurants in Hong Hong and has employed a diverse range of cooking styles used throughout the menu, with dishes such as grilled chicken wing and king prawn skewers and a variety of grilled meats from the Robata charcoal grill, alongside steamed wild seabass in black bean sauce with oyster mushrooms. Skewers start at £3 for two.

For those who still prefer the more traditional Japanese fare, Hi sushi salsa offers an entire range of authentic cuisine covering sushi, sashimi, ramen noodles, salads, yaki grills, tepan (cooked on hotplate), a variety of Tempura, bento box, donburi (rice dishes), gyzo dumplings, black cod miso and more. Prices start from £1.50 for fresh nigiri sushi, £2.10 for roll sushi, £2.50 for hand rolls, signature rolls for £6, and from £6.50 for the simplest sashimi selection, which includes scallop, oyster, squid, clam and sweet shrimp.

There is a multitude of different sashimi combinations and sushi sets to choose from. Hot dishes start at £9 for a teppanyaki meal that is served with soup, salad and rice, £6.80 for a bento box and £5 for a large bowl of noodles, and black cod miso for £15.50. There are also many special salsa signature dishes and special rolls. An all-day delivery service is also available.

Music is provided by resident DJs Neil and Johnny from Lasermagnetic, with weekly guest DJs providing a varied and relaxing soundtrack for guests to unwind to. At the weekend, a variety of DJs will be playing a mix of latino salsa, funk and and other blends of disco uplifting music. Talented mixologists at the long bar have created an exotic range of cocktails influenced by both Latin American and Japanese traditions, and are made from the freshest fruit juices, fresh purées and premium spirits. Cocktails start at £6. Hi sushi salsa also has an extensive wine list, with over 40 listings sourced from both the New World. Bottles range in price from £12 to £70.

Whether it’s to enjoy lunch, dinner or a cool drink along the banks of Camden Lock, Hi sushi salsa offers guests a truly unique and memorable experience. Table reservations are available for both drinkers and diners.
