Marco Pierre White Reveals His Favourite
World-famous chef Marco Pierre White named the Box Tree restaurant in Yorkshire as his ‘favourite restaurant in Britain’ during a recent visit to the kitchen where he learnt his trade.Marco – dubbed the Godfather of British Cooking, thanks to his exceptional culinary skills, was visiting the Box Tree restaurant in Ilkley to film a trailer for the much-anticipated new series of Hell’s Kitchen, set to air this autumn.
The Box Tree restaurant – run by Marco’s long-term friend, and Michelin-starred chef Simon Gueller has been subject to great reviews since Simon and his wife Rena took over in 2004 and it underwent extensive refurbishment.
“The Box Tree is my favourite restaurant in Britain,” stated Marco Pierre, “It’s somewhere I feel at home and enjoy coming. Simon and Rena have invested time and money into it and restored it to how it should be - with a star in the Michelin guide.”
Praise indeed from a man who became the first British, and youngest ever chef to be awarded an outstanding three Michelin stars. It’s clear that Marco has real love for The Box Tree, which he calls his “spiritual home” and also real respect for Simon as a lifetime friend and great chef.
Aware of Marco’s reputation as the number one enfant terrible of the culinary world, and the fact that Marco was cooking in public for the first time in seven years, chefs at the Box Tree were clearly anticipating a tough day. However, when happily cooking with Simon in the Box Tree Kitchen where his career began, the two master chefs looked very much at home.
The renowned Box Tree restaurant has been a key feature of Yorkshire living for the past 40 years. Taken over by husband and wife team Simon and Rena Gueller in 2004, the Box Tree boasts an unforgettable culinary experience and an increasing number of accolades. Simon Gueller is the only Yorkshire chef to have achieved Michelin star status at each of his three Yorkshire restaurants.
With an acclaimed Michelin star, 3 AA Rosettes and having been named country restaurant of the year in the 2007 Good Food Guide, the Box Tree restaurant continues to go from strength to strength.
