Fizzing Festive Fun This Christmas

18th September 2007 Print
There’s a huge range of fun and festive treats in store for you at the General Tarleton Inn, at Ferrensby, North Yorkshire this year. In fact, there’s so much going on over this year’s festive period, you’ll have to try hard to find an excuse not to go along to one or more of the fun treats on offer. This is the place where GT not only stands for General Tarleton, but also ‘Good Time’.

Starting with ’Christmas on a Plate’ lunch or dinner served between 10th and 21st December, and then followed swiftly by Carols in the Terrace Garden on the 20th December, a pre-Christmas lunch on 22nd December, Christmas Eve Dinner in the Tarleton Restaurant, Christmas Day or Boxing Day lunch, of course, a Yorkshire Jazz Brunch on 27th December and then a terrific New Year’s Eve Dinner Party on 31st December in either the Bar/Brasserie or the main restaurant – and if you’re still up for more, then they’re also open for a New Year’s Day lunch where you’ll get the New Year off to a fine start with a nice glass of fizz.

The General Tarleton, now affectionately known just as the GT, was originally built as a coaching inn towards the end of the 18th century and was named after Sir Banastre Tarleton, the “butcher general” who fought in the American War of Independence. But there’s no trace now of anything so violent or bloodythirsty in the present day traditional country inn with rooms, where owners, John and Claire Topham, have turned the General Tarleton into one of Yorkshire’s finest and most sought-after venues, renowned for both its fine wining and dining and the quality of the newly converted luxurious accommodation.

The GT in Ferrensby is situated between Harrogate and Boroughbridge, only 3 miles off the A1, and almost exactly halfway between London and Edinburgh.

Take a closer look at what’s on offer over the Festive period:

10th – 21st December (excluding Saturdays and Sundays): ’Christmas on a Plate’ lunch or dinner in the Tarleton Restaurant: 3 courses including the traditional Turkey and all the trimmings if you wish, but there are many other dishes to choose from, too, plus coffee and mince pies, £25.
