Royal Court Theatre launches new Café Bar

5th October 2007 Print
Royal Court Theatre launches new Café Bar The Royal Court Theatre Café Bar, which has been under new management since Summer 2006, is re-launching this month. Since the Royal Court Theatre opened in 1956, its bar has always been a lively meeting place for audiences, writers, directors and actors.

Occupying the Orchestra pit of the original 19th–Century auditorium, it extends into the original vaults under the pavement and a spacious hall, built underneath Sloane Square, in what was formally a ladies’ public toilet. High vaulted ceilings with natural light pouring in through glass pavement blocks make a dramatic addition to a unique location.

In the months since the Royal Court took back control of the café bar from external contractors, it has seen substantial changes to both the menu and the personnel, including a new management team and a new head chef.

Highlights of the new café bar include:

- The best of British home-baking in a contemporary setting.
- Open for lunch, tea or dinner and late drinking, whether seeing a play or not.
- The perfect venue for private entertaining and business meetings.
- Free Wi-Fi.

The menu celebrates the very best of British cooking, with a focus on the exciting and innovative use of fresh produce, quality meats and cheeses and traditional home baking. The freshest ingredients are sourced from award winning suppliers. Cured meats, cheeses, oils and olives, for example, from Brindisa Spanish Foods, provide an endless supply of delicacies for the café bar’s seasonal charcuterie plates.

The comprehensive wine list has been selected from London wine merchants Bibendum and includes English and organic wines, Prosecco, Champagne and sparkling wine, with Nicolas Feuillatte as the new Royal Court House Champagne.

The Cafe Bar offers a bar food menu from 11am until 11pm serving pastries, bagels and baguettes,Twinings teas and Puro fair trade coffee. Patrons can also choose from a daily selection of fresh juices and smoothies prepared each morning on the premises.

For something more substantial the café menu, served from 12pm until 8pm, takes an inspired new approach to fresh produce and home baking, and is served very quickly making it perfect for pre theatre dining.
