January detox at Tamarai
What better way to kick start the new year, sticking to all those resolutions made just after midnight to get back into shape after the excess of Christmas than by sampling a range of healthy pan Asian dishes and a selection of detox cocktails at Tamarai in Covent Garden.Head Chef Manish Mehrotra and his expert team of chefs have added some interesting dishes for January to help cleanse body and soul after the excesses of December.
In addition to healthy steamed dim sum such as: Herb tofu rolls and lemon gras sambal and Golden crispy cups with sweet corn, water chestnut and goji berries, the menu also includes Steamed Wild Sea Bass, lemon sauce and Smoked Salmon Thayar Satham (curd rice), tomato pickle. There is also a choice of nutritious, light and fragrant salads including Mango and green papaya, banana blossom and pandana dressing and Mud crab and pomelo with galangal and palm sugar. Light grills and nourishing curries complete the menu.
Non-alcoholic, detox cocktails are the perfect accompaniment to these healthy lunchtime treats. Tamarai’s bar team have used ingredients such as cardamom, ginger, cinnamon and mint – all traditionally used in Asia as well as the West to treat a variety of ailments, from warding off colds to aiding digestion. These have been skilfully combined with both exotic and more common fruits such as nashi pears, blueberries and pomegranate, all of which are rich in nutrients, Vitamin C (some also contain Vitamins A, B, E and folic acid) and antioxidants.
Eastern Promise: Cardamom, mint leaves, ginger cordial, fresh apple juice and strawberries
Rising Sun: Nashi pear, pomegranate juice, apple juice, cinnamon
Honey Bee: Raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, lemon juice, agave syrup, cranberry juice, bee pollen
