Food to touch your heart in Wembley

Alisan Restaurant, whose unique Golden Dumpling dim sum was recently feted by Restaurant Magazine’s ‘Best Dishes’ Awards, has introduced a new dim sum menu. Lunchtime diners at much-acclaimed modern Cantonese restaurant opposite Wembley Stadium, have a selection of more than 140 dim sum dishes from which to choose.

Most items cost between £2.00 and £2.60. Favourites include Prawn & Enoki Mushroom Dumpling, Scallop Shumai, Shark’s Fin Dumpling Consommé, Chicken Claws in Chilli Black Bean Sauce, Shiitake & Duck Rolls, Crab Seafood Pastry with Salad Cream Century Egg & Pork Congee and Deep Fried Cream Custard Bun.

Alisan’s many vegetarians are catered for particularly well with numerous exquisitely rendered dishes including, Pan Fried Yam in Marmite Sauce, Stir Fried Asparagus, Lotus Root, Shimeigi Mushroom, Fungus, Celery, Baby Corn & Macedonia Nut, Stir Fried Sugar Snap, Water Chestnut, Fungus & Red Pepper, Pan Fried Yam in Marmite Sauce and Vegetarian Singapore Fried Noodles.

Alisan’s Golden Dumpling (£2.80) recently acknowledged as one of the best dim sum dishes in the country by Restaurant magazine, is regarded as a close second only to Fulham’s Mao Tai restaurant.

Golden Dumpling is a traditional Chinese dim sum with a modern touch. Its pastry is "golden" in colour, which is the result of steamed pumpkin being mixed in with the dough, whereas most traditional steamed dumplings are white in colour. The combination of chopped prawns, diced scallops and pumpkin steamed in pumpkin flavoured dough gives this Alisan speciality an exquisite taste.

In Chinese, dim sum, which literally means, “to touch your heart” are a variety of savoury pastries, steamed or deep, fried dumplings and stuffed buns. Dim sum is a Cantonese custom linked to the Chinese tradition of drinking tea or "yum cha" in teahouses - a place where people can meet up, drink tea, have a conversation, socialise and eat dim sum.

Alisan's dim sum chefs are Bao Chen and Seng Chow. Both Chen and Chow previously work at Hakkasan, the UK’s only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant. Both trained under Hakkasan's renowned Dim Sum Consultant, Choong.
