‘Rasoi’ celebrates successful first year in business The owners of one of Leamington’s most popular Indian restaurants “Rasoi” have just celebrated their first year in business. Ranjeev and Sharan Atwal, from Leamington Spa, took over the lease of the former Lloyds TSB bank in October 2006. After an extensive refurbishment programme costing tens of thousands of pounds, Rasoi opened at the end of May 2007.

After an exciting first year, the restaurant is now averaging approximately 300 covers per week and has seen takings almost double in the last six months. Rasoi has fast earned its reputation for providing the best authentic Indian cuisine in town.

One of the reasons behind Rasoi’s success is the quality of food which is inspired from authentic and traditional North Indian cuisine. Rasoi, which means ‘kitchen’ in Punjabi, specialises in providing freshly cooked dishes from the Punjab, made with the finest natural ingredients. Dishes are cooked in the open plan kitchen so customers can enjoy watching the Chefs prepare their meals.

The success of Rasoi is also down to its ambience. Ranjeev and Sharan have created an exciting, vibrant and contemporary space with red leather and chrome chairs, granite-look tables and stylish table decorations. Large bright murals adorn the walls which add to the contemporary feel. Upstairs is an exclusive lounge bar which overlooks the Jephson Gardens and All Saints Church. Painted using inspiration from the British Colonial era, the bar serves as an ideal place for pre-dinner drinks or to enjoy a coffee after the meal. The bar stocks an enviable range of high quality spirits, many of which are not available anywhere else in Leamington.

Along with their team of Chef’s, Ranjeev and Sharan have created an exciting menu with a wide choice of starters and entrées, 23 meat & fish courses and 12 vegetarian choices. If a customer has a particular preference, the Chefs will endeavour to prepare it. The wine list is varied and different with wine choices from Italy, New Zealand, Spain, America, France, Australia and Chile.

Due to the success and popularity of the food, Ranjeev and Sharan have launched an outdoor catering service, providing delicious North Indian cuisine for weddings, parties and private functions. Another new addition to their offering are their specially packaged lunch-boxes which include a vegetarian or meat option plus rice, naan bread, poppadom and salad, priced at just £4.95. The lunch-boxes are delivered free within 5 miles of Rasoi and have already proved a popular hit with local businesses.

Another successful initiative at Rasoi is their loyalty cards which have proved a big hit with customers. Cards are handed out to customers which are stamped after each visit. On the customers’ tenth visit, 20% is deducted from their food bill.

Ranjeev Atwal, Co-owner of Rasoi, stated “Our first year of trading at Rasoi has been fantastic. The success of the business has been very much down to hard work, effort, determination and having a great team behind us. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our parents and families. Our customers value food that is fresh and made with natural ingredients which is one of the reasons Rasoi is so successful”.

Rasoi is situated at 4-6 Victoria Terrace, Leamington Spa, CV31 3AU.
