Tamarai introduces a new take on vegetarian cuisine

31st July 2008 Print
Tamarai, Covent Gardens best loved restaurant and late night bar launches a stunning new selection of healthy vegetarian dishes. These sublime new creations can be accompanied by a selection of refreshing non-alcoholic cocktails and smoothies, perfect for the heat of the hot mid summer days and balmy nights. Tamarai recently celebrated winning the Theme Award for the Best Late Night Bar in the UK, another reason to visit this dynamically vibrant venue.

Pan Asian specialist, Head chef Manish Mehrotra has sourced the best possible ingredients the summer months have to offer, alongside herbs with medicinal properties and unusual spices all of which are put to work in his exciting new range of dishes. Mango ginger has cooling properties, while white turmeric is a natural antiseptic. Madras gunpowder is a spice mix - mixed mild as done at Tamarai, it is traditionally given to children in Southern India to satisfy cravings while keeping them away from spicy chutneys and pickles.

Manish’s range of vegetarian dishes include small plates to start: Tossed Baby Idlis (rice cake), cashew nut, Madras gunpowder and Vegetarian Dim Sum basket (Mixed mushrooms, pak-choi and spinach dim sum with herb cream cheese) and Mango and Green Papaya, banana blossom pandana dressing salad, while main courses feature Stuffed masala Morels with water chestnuts, string hoppers and Crispy Florets stir fried with shallots, krachai (a type of ginger) and Thai Chillies. Desserts such as Coconut and palm sugar brulee, elderflower sorbet or Iced Mango, goji berries and bitter chocolate mouse finish things off perfectly.

The imaginative list of non-alcoholic cocktails and smoothies contain healthy, vitamin boosting ingredients and can be enjoyed on their own or as an accompaniment to Chef Manish’s vegetarian dishes: Hangover Buster (ginger cordial, cranberry juice, apple juice, strawberries and mint leaves), Immune Booster (banana, papaya, kiwi, orange juice and agave syrup), Skin Tonic (blackberries, strawberries, blueberries, apple juice), Mum-to-be Mocktail (strawberries, banana, guava juice, greek yoghurt) and The Slimmer (fresh mango and mango juice, papaya, raspberries).

This exceptional offering will be available at Tamarai until September. Dishes are priced individually with small plates from £5 to £14, mains £13.50 to £19 and desserts at £6.

For this summer only, Tamarai is offering the 9 course Chef’s Tasting Menu normally priced at £48 per person for £24 per person, visit tamarai.co.uk for details.
