Here’s a taster of what’s on offer this autumn:
Proud to be the bearer of a Michelin star, and recently shortlisted for the London Restaurant Awards 2008 (Top 10 Restaurants outside London category) expect nothing less than a taste sensation at the Yorke Arms in Ramsgill (yorke-arms.co.uk) with their hearty ‘Black Sheep Nidderdale Mutton, Hot Lentils & Roots, served with Quince Relish’.
The Boar’s Head (boarsheadripley.co.uk) has unearthed a true blast from the past, serving up ‘Game & Crackshot Ale Casserole’. This dish uses an ale brewed for the hotel by Daleside Brewery using a 17th century recipe found by owner and proprietor Sir Thomas Ingilby in an old housekeepers book in the Library of 700 year-old Ripley Castle (The Boar’s Head is part of the Ripley Castle Estate).
Enjoy the stunning view of the ‘Ha’Penny Harbour’ at The Pier in Harwich (milsomhotels.com) Essex, whilst tucking into their ‘Steak and Abbot Ale Pie with Colchester Native Oysters’. A wonderful twist on a traditional recipe, this dish crafts together regional ingredients – Colchester’s famous oysters and Greene King’s premier cask beer - Abbot Ale (whose association with the Great Abbey of St Edmundsbury dates back to The Domesday Book).
Be sure to save some room to savour the Best of British Puddings - you truly can eat your way across England, Scotland and Wales! Enjoy contemporary classics such as ‘Pecan Pie served with Thwaites Original Bitter Ice Cream’ at the Millstone at Mellor (millstonehotel.co.uk) in Saddleworth, Lancashire, ‘Autumn Bramble Pudding with Homemade Sloe Gin’ at Ye Olde Bull’s Head (bullsheadinn.co.uk) in Beaumaris, Anglesey or traditional ‘Perthshire Heather Honey Iced Nougat’ made with Glenturret single malt whisky, at The Royal Hotel (royalhotel.co.uk), Comrie. Take in the stunning beauty of the Strathearn Valley and don’t forget to visit "The Famous Grouse" distillery and home of Glenturret, only six miles away!
