El Rompido - a golf course with no property?

28th March 2007 Print
Villa, Marina El Rompido A golf course without property is like Posh without Becks, but that’s exactly what the creators of 36-hole Golf El Rompido on the Costa de la Luz want - nature as the centre of attention. If you want a house nearby, Marina El Rompido flanks the perimeter of the South Course providing the perfect solution for house hunters, golfers, and of course, the natural environment.

Across the world from Bulgaria to the Balearics developers have built golf courses with property in mind. Those ‘uninterrupted frontline golf views’ provide the perfect justification for inflating the price of a property and lovers of chequered trousers flock to fight over the ‘penthouse with parking for buggy and within walking distance of the clubhouse’. So why on earth would the creators of Golf El Rompido, 36-holes of immaculate golf together with a golf school directed by prestigious Scottish player Peter Ballingall, miss out on earning a fast buck? Answer – this is western Costa de la Luz, and things are different here.

In this south westernmost corner of Spain, the white sandy beaches remain unblemished, stretching for kilometres in either direction, development is slow, steady, environmentally aware and targeted to the upmarket rather than the mass market. Lager louts and high rise accommodation are not welcome on this coastline. Golf El Rompido was built for the purpose of golf and golf only. Both of the 18-hole courses, the south inaugurated in 2003 and the north in 2006, are created by prestigious Spanish designer Alvaro Arana and represent a new concept in golf, where the fundamental objective is respect for the environment. A total absence of buildings throughout the golf course means that nature is the centre of attention and quite rightly so, property would just upset the equilibrium, or worse, the swing. Instead, they have only allowed space for two hotels, the five-star El Rompido Golf from the Set Hotel chain and the four-star Hotel Fuerte El Rompido, both of which are in perfect harmony with the landscape. A golfer has to rest his or her weary head somewhere.

If Huelva’s only 36-hole golf course, punctuated by pines and orange groves with spectacular Atlantic views and bathed with 300 days of warm sunshine every year sounds appealing, there is a nearby property solution to suit. Arguably the most upscale project in the area, Marina El Rompido, borders Golf El Rompido and Titan Properties has a selection of villas within the resort. Some of the properties have private swimming pools, others with private berths and several with 20-years’ El Rompido golf membership and your own buggy included in the price. The lake-front resort was completed in 2001 and has a social club, gymnasium, tennis courts, communal pools, horse riding and 24-hour gated security.

Prices at Marina El Rompido range from 770,000 euros up to 1.2 million euros. For further information, visit titan-properties.com.
