Burying a piece of history

The housebuilder invited 30 Year Five pupils and their teachers from the Discovery School to the development so that they could bury the capsule and capture a piece of history.
The children placed mementoes and keep sakes into the lead capsule which they thought represented the year, month and day of burial. A school hat, dinner menu, old mobile phone, ipod and class photograph were among the items buried. Children also included a copy of national newspaper - which had front page coverage of the fire on the Cutty Sark - and copies of typical magazines for boys and girls.
Sales Manager Denise Rogers says: “The idea was that the time capsule is buried and then in 30 years time it will be dug up. We are hoping that the children from the Discovery School will bring their own children along to the site in 30 years time to look at the contents of the capsule. I think they will be amazed by how much things have changed.
“Charles Church always likes to give something back to the communities it builds in and has enjoyed working with The Discovery School and its pupils over the last few years. The children all really enjoyed selecting the items to place in the capsule and they had fun burying it.”
