For Enda Blacker, moving to a new house at West Hill Park in Dartford feels like coming home. Enda started work 46 years ago as a student nurse at West Hill Hospital, which once occupied the site where Barratt’s new West Hill Park development now stands. Whilst still a student, Enda met her future husband, Keith, and stayed working as a nurse at the hospital for almost 20 years.

“Living here brings back very happy memories,” says Enda, “I used to live in student accommodation not far from where we’re living now! The hospital buildings were becoming very old and badly needed replacing, and the new development is lovely, so quiet and safe. It’s wonderful to be back!”

Keith’s family live in Dartford and, having spent all their married life in the area, Enda and Keith were keen to stay close to their family, many friends and their local church. When their three sons grew up, two of them moving abroad, they decided it was time to leave their five-bedroom house and find a smaller home.

Keith and Enda originally thought that a bungalow would suit them, but quickly found that most bungalows were in need of renovation. Visiting West Hill Park, Barratt’s popular development of apartment and houses set in the lovely landscaped grounds of the former West Hill Hospital, they found the perfect solution in a brand new three-bedroom townhouse. “We needed a house that would be easy to maintain and this really fits the bill,” says Keith.

Buying the house was very easy; Keith and Enda first visited West Hill Park in February and, by the end of April, were happily living in their new home. “The staff at Barratt were very friendly and helpful, and anything that needed to be done after we moved in was handled very quickly and efficiently,” comments Keith.

Moving from a larger home is, of course, never easy: “We’re still working out how to fit in all our furniture,” laughs Enda, “but we’ve settled in very easily and really love living here.”

West Hill Park is located just a few minutes’ walk from the town centre. Although Keith and Enda both drive, they often use the local transport for convenience:

“There is a very good bus service from the end of the road that goes to the town, hospital and Bluewater – it’s very handy,” comments Enda. In fact Bluewater, Europe’s largest shopping centre, is only about three miles away. The station is also within walking distance, making it quick and easy to travel into central London.

Keith and Enda’s friends heartily approve of their new home and the couple are looking forward to two very special visitors: “Our two sons who live abroad, one in Australia and the other in Spain, are coming to visit us soon. We’re so excited and looking forward to showing them our new home!” says Enda. With a large open-plan living/dining room, three bedrooms and a second bathroom, Keith and Enda will find that they have plenty of room when family and friends come to stay.

The homes at West Hill Park are a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, together with three and four-bedroom houses. Current prices start at £199,995 for a one-bedroom apartment, £215,000 for a two-bedroom apartment and £299,995 for a three-bedroom house.
