Millwood rewards promising young artist

Judging took place at an art exhibition at the school with celebrated artist Sarah Woodfine selecting Katie as the overall winner, as she comments:
"Katie's work demonstrated a sophistication and understanding of process and surface that was very advanced for such a young artist. Her painting incorporating the woven surface was incredibly detailed and I enjoyed the way in which she made the extreme contrast with the tree in dense black. Katie's abstract paintings were playful and showed much potential for development and I just felt there was a real confidence to her work."
Katie is now looking forward to starting a degree in English Language at Manchester University but will continue to create artwork in her spare time.
John Elliott, Chief Executive of Millwood Designer Homes comments: “I was delighted to award Katie the Young Artist of the Year prize. I felt her work was of outstanding quality and she had clearly worked extremely hard. To see such artistic merit in our schools today is truly inspiring and it is my hope that pupils will be made aware that the Millwood prize exists and that they will be encouraged by her achievement. I wish Katie all the best for the future and hope that she keeps us updated with her progress.”
The Millwood Encouragement pack is part of an on-going initiative by the housebuilder and consists of a large trophy, retained by the school, while the winner is presented with their own cup, together with a £100 prize.
Millwood Designer Homes is currently building a number of quality developments in Kent and East Sussex.
