Holborough treasure hunt a success despite the rain

Almost 100 residents and members of the Snodland community competed in 18 teams, using their local knowledge in a bid to win the treasure.
‘WI and Friends’, which was entered by Margaret Beaney, emerged as the winners of the event and were presented with their treasure comprising £200 of Marks & Spencer vouchers and £50 of HMV vouchers, by Site Sales Manager Mac McCollum.
The Holborough Treasure Hunt was just one of a number of events held as part of the highly successful 2007 festival, organised by the Chamber of Commerce through its quarterly Town Talk publication.
‘WI and Friends’ team member Jenny Way commented:
“We decided to take part because between the five of us we know a lot about Snodland. However we all ended up learning new things about the town. We had a very enjoyable day and are thrilled to have won.”
‘Captain Jack’ and ‘TOGS’ were the runners up and each received £50 in Marks and Spencer vouchers. All of the participants were rewarded for their hard work with a BBQ at the end of the day.
The two week long festival, which was sponsored by Berkeley Homes (Kent) Ltd, was launched with the Snodland Town Carnival and Carnival Dance on Saturday 7th July and was rounded off with a special ‘Songs of Praise’ service at All Saints Church on Sunday 22nd July.
Other entertainment on offer during the festival period included an open-air concert by The Drifters, historical walks of Snodland, an ‘Antiques Roadshow’ event, a children’s open air disco and funfair, an art exhibition and an evening of popular classical music performed by The City of Rochester Symphony Orchestra.
A number of other local businesses and organisations also supported the two-week long festival including Snodland Town Council, Snodland Historical Society, Snodland Choral Society, St Katherine’s School, Snodland Church of England School, Holmesdale Technology College and Snodland Football Club.
Angela Plant, Marketing Manager for Berkeley Homes (Kent) Ltd commented:
“The Chamber of Commerce, through its Town Talk publication, put a great deal of effort into the organisation of the Snodland 2007 Festival and we were thrilled it was a resounding success. Despite the poor weather, there was an excellent turnout and everyone appeared to thoroughly enjoyed themselves.”
