Life made easier for downsizer at Avante With older people living much longer and healthier lives than they have done in the past, it is no surprise that many struggle to maintain their lifestyle with just a pension for income.

One buyer at Crest Nicholson’s Avante development in Coxheath, Kent is already planning for his retirement, by opting to downsize from his existing property and save some money, whilst still making sure he has plenty of room to entertain his family.

David Osborne (59) has set himself a five year retirement plan, and the first part of that involved moving into a smaller house that could save him some money. After looking around, David decided to downsize from his four-bedroom detached house in Staplehurst to a three bedroom terraced home at nearby Avante.

David comments: “Part of my retirement plan was to save money by downsizing, but it was still important for me to have a home big enough for my grandchildren to come and stay. When I saw the houses at Avante I was really impressed by the architecture of the development, especially how light and spacious the houses feel. I also really wanted to live in a development that had a village feel to it and with all the great amenities and bus links at Avante it ticked all the boxes for what I was looking for.”

For David, another money saving factor of moving to the development was its ecological credentials, including the low energy lighting that has been incorporated in to all areas of the property that endures high usage reducing electricity consumption. The glazing within all of the properties at Avante has been minimised in the bedrooms and maximised in the living areas to let light flood in and reduce the loss of heat. Other eco features include a central lantern roof light (a kind of atrium) which allows a generous amount of daylight into all properties. This unique feature also provides natural ventilation and improves solar gain without compromising security.

David continues: “When I moved in to the development, I phoned some of the energy companies to see what I could expect to be paying, and even though it is only one bedroom less it looks like I could save up to 50% on some of my bills thanks to the design of the properties.”

Annette Cole, Sales and Marketing Director of Crest Nicholson (Eastern) Ltd comments, “Avante is a great development for any type of purchaser who is looking for a new home in a great community, where a range of local facilities are on offer on their doorstep. There are properties at the development to suit any type of purchaser, from first time buyers to families and retirees, plus because of the measures Crest Nicholson have taken to make the homes more energy efficient, a home at Avante could cut bills and lessen the cost of living.”

Avante is an innovative collection of 150 one and two bedroom apartments and two, three and four bedroom houses that are pushing the boundaries of sustainable living. Architecturally the attractive homes are contemporary and have been designed to reduce the consumption of energy and water.

Located in Coxheath in Kent, Avante is just four miles south of Maidstone. Well positioned, the development is situated a few miles from the M20. For further information about Avante, visit crestnicholson.com. Open market prices for a home at Avante start from £145,000 for a one bedroom apartment.
